However, commercially it was very successful and reached No. 1 in the US and France, and produced their second No. 1 single, '. Waiting for the Sun was the first Doors album to chart in the United Kingdom, where it peaked inside the Top 20. The album was certified gold in that country by the (BPI), as well as being certified gold and platinum in several other countries.
For the fourth studio album (1969), The Doors chose to incorporate string and brass instruments into a number of their songs. The band was criticized by many for this, and referred to as 'pop sellouts' and having 'gone soft'. Despite this, The Soft Parade became the band's fourth straight Top 10 album and it produced their third most successful single, '.
The album was certified platinum in both the US and Canada. To counter the artistic criticism of its last two albums The Doors next released (1970). The blues heavy LP was a critical and commercial success. Although only having produced one single that did not perform well on the charts, Morrison Hotel became another Top 10 album for the band and was certified platinum in the US, Canada, and in France, by the (SNEP).
The group next released (1970), which was a live album containing snippets of performances edited together from fourteen different concerts recorded in nine different cities from 1969– 70. These recordings make up a portion of what is known as the Bright Midnight Archives (BMA). Absolutely Live was very well received, it charted in the Top 10 in the US and Canada and was certified gold in both countries. (1971), was the final Doors album with frontman Jim Morrison, who died of undetermined causes in Paris shortly after the album's release. The album was a triumph, praised by critics and a commercial success, it landed inside the Top 10 in the US and Canada and produced two very well performing singles, ' and '. Woman relied very heavily on the blues, which was a genre of music The Doors would often incorporate into their early live sets while they were the house band at the, a nightclub on the, in Los Angeles. After the death of Morrison, the three remaining Doors members released two more studio albums before they eventually disbanded, (1971), and (1972). Both albums appeared on the US and Canadian albums charts, and likewise both produced charting singles, but the success was limited and the three sought solo ventures. Five years later, Manzarek, Krieger, and Densmore reunited to record backing tracks over Morrison's poetry, and released The Doors' ninth and final studio album titled, (1978). Morrison had recorded the poetry in separate sessions in 1969– 70. Upon release, the album received mixed reviews, but was commercially successful and was awarded platinum status in the US by the RIAA.
The use of the highly controversial Doors song ', from their debut album, in the popular Vietnam War film, in 1979 and the release of the first compilation album in seven years,, released in the fall of 1980, created a resurgence in The Doors. Due to those two events, an entirely new audience, too young to have known of the band earlier, began listening and purchasing the band's music. The group's popularity continued to increase. In the 80's, the band released concert films, and live and compilation albums to much commercial success. In 1991,, a feature film about the band, directed by winning director, that starred as Morrison was released, which helped to expand The Doors' popularity even more, and a new audience had been born. (2009), is a documentary about The Doors written and directed by and narrated. It was nominated for an for Outstanding Nonfiction Series and won a for Best Long Form Video.

The excitement Jim Morrison elicits nearly thirty years after his death is just one of the many fascinating and seemingly eternal aspects of the Doors. Lest it be forgotten, the band also recorded some of the darkest and most challenging music of their time. What is so distinctive about the Los Angeles monster group is how the musicians -- especially the multifaceted Ray Manzarek -- successfully melded rock, jazz-inspired improvisation, and Weill-esque angularity into dramatic settings for Morrison's haunting baritone and acid-damaged poetry.
Their amazing range set them apart from their Psychedelic brethren, as they moved seamlessly from the propelling rock of 'Break on Through,' the breathy beauty of 'Indian Summer,' the manic blues of 'Five to One' and the Coltrane-flavored 'Light My Fire' to the funky edginess of 'Peace Frog' (it could be argued that the latter was the single biggest influence on the 1980s 'Madchester' scene). Whether you feel that Morrison was a brilliant and complex modern-day shaman or a second-rate pretty-boy poet who lost it to alcohol and pills, it's impossible to deny the long-lasting impact the Doors have had on rock 'n' roll. This band helped shape my life. I got into them at an early age and almost 20 years on i'm still hooked. Ray Manzarik is amazing he plays keyboards and bass and filled in when Morrison failed to show at his own concerts. Robby Krieger is an amazing guitarist and John Densmore was definitley an under rated drummer. Jim Morrison usually stole the show with his boyish good looks and long flowing hair.
Putting his all into every performance he helped lead himself to an early grave. This band surely must go down in history as one of the greatest band ever.
They still have a huge following to this day with record sales and merchandising still at extremely high levels. Still an inspiration too many, i will never tire of listening to them. Awesome psychedlic bluesy rock band that sometimes don't get the credit or respect they deserve and are more associated with Jim Morrison's supposed antics. They created a really wonderful unique sound that still sounds incredible today. Their 6 albums are excellent, all created within 4 years. Some of their pieces of music are pure theatre/poetry incorporated into music, 'The End' is absolutely mesmerising, as is 'When The Music's Over'. 'Light My Fire' is just a fantastically funky rock tune that still does the business today.
'Riders On The Storm' is exquisite mellow jazzy rock. There are just so many great records by this fantastic band. Their best album for me is the first self-titled one and then I would say 'Strange Days', closely followed by 'LA Woman' and then 'Waiting For The Sun'.
